Mobile Revolution

Pin It WHAT IS SMS ?

Short Message Service (SMS) is a communication service standardised in the GSM mobile communicationsystem, using standardised communications protocols allowing the interchange of short text messages between mobile telephone devices.

SMS text messaging is the most widely used data
application on the planet, with 2.4 billion active users,
or 74% of all mobile phone subscribers sending and
receiving text messages on their phones. The SMS
technology has facilitated the development and growth of text messaging. The connection between the phenomenon of text messaging and the underlying technology is so great that in parts of the world the term "SMS" is used as a synonym for a text message or the act of sending a text message, even when a different protocol is being used.
SMS as used on modern handsets was originally defined as part of the GSM series of standards in 1985 as a means of sending messages of up to 160 characters (including spaces), to and from GSM mobile handsets. Since then, support for the service has expanded to include alternative mobile standards such as ANSI CDMA networks and Digital AMPS, as well as satellite and landline networks. Most SMS messages are mobile-to-mobile text messages, though the standard supports other types of broadcast messaging as well.

History

The idea of adding text message in the mobile service came in the beginning of the 1980s. At that time the basic aim of the test message was to send alert messages to the user like voicemail alert. Later on the horizon of text messages broadened and different operators started to use SMS for sending text messages from one mobile user to another.
The first commercial message sent on the Vodafone on 3 December 1992. Initial rate of messaging was really slow due to some problems in the billing system. In 1995 average messages per user per GSM network was 0.4, but at the end of 2000 it increased up to 35 messages per user and now a days it̢۪s increasing more rapidly, especially in the third world countries.

Mobile Revolution in Pakistan

Mobile boom is relatively new in Pakistan as in the other third world countries. Presently a cell phone has become a basic necessity of every young person countrywide. Rate of growth of the consumer market has been tremendous despite of only prevision of basic facilities like email, SMS, EMS, and EDGE. Consumers here don't know the meaning of 3G. Surprisingly network coverage of mobile phone operators is so pathetic in some areas that people don't use cell phones although they can afford it. Off all these things the call and messaging rates are very reasonable.Paktel was the first ever cellular operator in Pakistan, but with the launch of Mobilink GSM in 1998 it started to loose market share. According to the recent official statistics Mobilink offers the largest coverage area and entertains more than 21 million consumers. Ufone, Telenor and Warid Tel also joined the bandwagon later on. But the race is going on and on and Zong is also take a part of it and now in Pakistan 8 billion people have a cell phones with the increasing customers it is a remarkable boom in telecom industry and set a record in world.

SMS CRAZE

Bloggers in Pakistan report that November 3 had the "highest number" of SMS messages sent -- an average of about 10 per mobile phone.

It was a time when was Telenor launched after a few months they were launched their package called DJUICE they make a hard noise in Pakistan becuase their standard sms rates is .20 paisa after that every one had cell phone specially young boys and girls and the race must go on other companies also got new packages specially night packages so any one can easily talk in night but it also distrub the discipline of young boys and girls whenever we see any body they are looking their cell phone and totally concentrate on it even they cause a major accident due to avoidence of traffic rules besides all it is a machine you use like that they work like that.

Increasing the number of sms in Pakistan also got the increasing the number of websites in which includes mobile reviews, wallpapers, softwares specially SMS services and SMS messages like Flirt sms, Love sms, decent sms, shair-o-shaire sms etc.
