The mobile phone traders gathered in Green Town main market, holding banners against negligence of the police and demanded that the government provide security to the traders. Mobile Association President Arif Mehmood Sheikh said the police had failed to provide security to the traders. Sheikh was victim to a robbery of Rs 300,000 worth of mobiles, calling cards and mobile cases on Wednesday. “The robbers broke into my shops through the rooftop and managed to escape with all the valuables,” he said, adding it was not the first such incident in the mobile shops. “In the last two months, there have been around 15 robberies in mobile phone shops and not one thief was caught,” Sheikh said. He said it was not possible for the traders to do business under such circumstances. “We are paying taxes to the government but in return we get only robberies,” he added. He said the traders caught a thief some time back and handed him over to the police but the police released him saying he was innocent.
