RECORDER REPORT LAHORE (May 19 2009): A division bench of Supreme Court headed by Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday while observing that the load-shedding has been going on for a number of years, which reached its peak last year directed the PTCL to improve its services effected by the power load-shedding within five weeks time.

The bench had taken a suo moto notice of the poor service on a column published in a local newspaper. On Monday, PTCL chief technical officer Mohammad Nasarullah appeared and earlier the regional manager Lahore had appeared and took the defence that the load-shedding was the main problem.
They had arranged alternate power batteries but those proved to be not enough to meet the requirement. Bench observed that this was height of the negligence on part of the PTCL authorities. Bench observed, we are surprised the PTCL did not make necessary arrangements after experiencing the load-shedding.
It has been sleeping over the matter with putting up batteries which even a layman in the country know were not effective in the kind of load-shedding that the country was experiencing. Nasarullah stated before the court that PTCL needed time to improve the services. The bench gave five weeks time to PTCL to remove all difficulties after which no excuse would be accepted the bench added and rose till next date of hearing.
