Islamabad: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has launched its Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) site which would allow mobile phone users to access the official website of PTA through their mobile phones. With this initiative, PTA has become the first public sector organization to have English, Urdu and the Mobile versions of its website.

Mobile users can now access PTA’s website through http://wap.pta.gov.pk. In this regard, the available information of PTA’s standard website has been transformed into simple text-based content to lower down the bandwidth requirements of a mobile consumer.

It may be noted that recently, PTA also launched the Urdu version of its website to facilitate a large segment of the population having less familiarity with English contents. The mobile edition (m-edition) would enable telecom consumers to access the available information regarding PTA activities, decisions, policies and even lodge complaints through their mobile handsets.

With reference to this development, Chairman PTA, Dr. Mohammed Yaseen said that PTA, in its endeavors for the development of ICTs in Pakistan, has taken number of initiatives to launch and promote new innovative solutions for the betterment of telecom industry and society.

It may be mentioned that a website is considered as an essential tool that serves a communication purpose between an organization and its clients. PTA is striving hard to facilitate the telecommunication industry and the consumers through provision of latest ICT solutions. The availability of English, Urdu and Mobile versions of PTA’s website is a part of this facilitation process, catering the requirements of different user segments.
