Beijing, China – Sony Ericsson President & CEO Bert Nordberg today opened the company’s annual supplier conference in Beijing. The conference comes the day after the company successfully unveiled the Sony Ericsson A8i, its first mobile phone to support China Mobile’s TD-SCDMA network.

Taking place annually, the conference brings together over 400 of the company’s top suppliers to discuss the vision of the company and plan for a successful year ahead.

Bert Nordberg, President & CEO, Sony Ericsson said, “Our global strategy has returned us to profitability and as we position ourselves for long term growth, our work with supplier partners becomes a central pillar in our overall strategy. With the largest proportion of our suppliers based in China and the Asia Pacific region, it makes absolute sense for us to hold this event here in Beijing. This year we are focusing on energising our supply chain and we are delighted that so many partners are joining us for what we believe will be an insightful and valuable event.

“China is a hugely important market for Sony Ericsson and we will continue to drive growth in the region, building an even stronger proposition that focuses on providing the most entertaining smartphones to even more consumers.”

The event is also an opportunity to recognize and award suppliers for especially innovative and collaborative working practices. Award recipients at the 2010 event are:

Best Mechanics – Sunarrow
Best Electromechanics - NXP Sound Solutions
Best Electronics – Everlight
Best SI/SBU Companion Products – Cotron
