MoU to install 900km optic fibre in Balochistan

ISLAMABAD : Universal Service Fund, Wateen Telecom and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority Ltd (PTCL) on Sunday singed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to install 900km optic fibre in Balochistan and provide basic services in Larkana (Sindh). The MoU was signed on the eve of World Telecom Day (WTD) here at a local hotel.

The deal was inked by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) PTCL, Walid Arshad, General Manager Wateen Telecom Mazhar Qayyum Butt and CEO Universal Service Fund Parvez Iftikhar.Under the agreement 900km optic fibre cable would be provided to 5 un-served Tahsils of Balochistan, (Dasht, Noshki, Dalbandin, Mashkhel and Taftan) touching also the cities of Dringar Ahmedwal, Nokundi and Chaghi comprising of 335,000 population. The second project would provide basic telephone data services in the un-served areas of Larkana and Shikarpur (Sindh) benefiting a population of 165,000. For the two projects government of Pakistan has given a subsidy of Rs 602 million to Wateen Telecom.
